Welcome to Melody Te Patu
Taranaki Futures Trust board has appointed a new Māori and Pasifika Trades Training Coordinator: Melody Te Patu of Te Atihaunui ā Papārangi and Taranaki. The role, delivered in partnership with WITT and based on campus, focuses on combining elements of student care and strengthening employer connections – supporting students from the campus into employment.
Melody will be responsible for the coordination of recruitment, pastoral care, education liaison and industry placements for Māori and Pacific students studying selected trade courses at WITT. Students aged between 16 years and 40 years of age are able to apply, and placements are still available for Semester 1 2019. Melody comes from Whanganui, where she performed the same role at UCOL. Melody says: “I am passionate about education and empowering Māori and Pasifica people and communities. The role of MPTT Coordinator allows me to support and guide whanau, hapu, iwi and communities to upskill and engage in education that can lead to higher education, employment or apprenticeships.”
Taranaki Futures board member Will Edwards says: “We are excited to welcome Melody to the Taranaki Futures team, and look forward to supporting her development of Māori and Pasifica students”. Newly appointed General Manager Belinda Mooney echoes these sentiments.
Māori and Pasifika Trades Training is one of a number of projects Taranaki Futures run to improve the transition from education to employment.
