Custom Help from Pete the Builder
Builder Pete Fryer from Custom Construction is the latest to share his expertise with the young people working on Taranaki Future’s two transportable homes.
“Pete was an obvious choice to work on the Build a Bach homes, he’s always keen on training the younger guys in the company and as he’s been in the industry a long time he has plenty of knowledge to share,” says Nathan Mumby, Owner Custom Construction.
This year, Taranaki Futures is working in partnership with WITT on two homes. There are 11 school students enrolled on Build a Bach and 16 WITT students enrolled in the New Zealand Certificate in Construction Trades Skills (Level 3) programme, building a second identical three-bedroom home. A third build is proposed for later in the year as part of the October 2018 programme offering through WITT.
“Pete has been a fantastic help with the progression of the Build a Bach builds, working with students on trusses, purlins and some exterior cladding” says WITT’s Trades Programme Manager Mathew Weel.
Custom Construction is an award winning construction company employing 26 staff who regularly host young people on work experience placements and apprenticeships.
“Industry support for projects like this is crucial and giving us two weeks from a top notch builder like Pete is a real boon for Build a Bach,” says Taranaki Futures General Manager Warwick Foy.
