Chad’s Acceleration into the IT Industry
A work experience placement at NakiCloud through Taranaki Future’s ACCELERATOR programme has turned into a job for ex New Plymouth Boys High School Student Chad Wenzlick.
ACCELERATOR is a youth business internship and mentoring programme, which matches year 12 and 13 students with local business mentors once a week over the second term of the school year.
“I’ve always wanted to work in IT, so this was a perfect placement for me,” says Wenzlick.
During the internship part of the ACCELERATOR programme, the NakiCloud team had Chad involved in disassembling and fixing computers.
“In some of our mentoring sessions I talked about what I looked for in employees and how to present yourself in an interview – I think I did my job a little too well!” says NakiCloud General Manager Eddie Daly.
Chad has now enrolled in an online Information Technology course at TANZ eCampus to complement his on the job learning.
“It is not the intention of ACCELERATOR to encourage young people to leave school, but Chad knew this pathway was the right one for him and he is able to combine further study while he earns which is a great outcome,” says Taranaki Futures General Manager Warwick Foy.
NakiCloud offers ultrafast fibre and cloud solutions from a Taranaki based data centre.
