Careers and Pies a Winning Combo
Taranaki Careers and Training Expo Trust chairman Warwick Foy was thrilled with this year's busy event held on Sunday August 19 and Monday August 20. Thousands of Taranaki students, parents and job-seekers of all ages visited numerous career exhibits at the TSB Stadium in New Plymouth.
"The purpose of the expo is about exploring opportunities and creating networks. “We need to expose learners to as many opportunities as we can and let them find their own path in their own time and make their own decisions”, says Foy.
"That requires absorbing information and advice and the Taranaki Careers and Training Expo aims to help that process along."
Opportunities to learn about jobs and tertiary studies will be plentiful at this year’s expo with a satisfying mix of exhibitors from the education, commercial and industrial sectors - including manufacturing and technology; construction and infrastructure; creative, primary and services industries; social and community sectors; and study and course providers.
A new feature in 2018 was some good Taranaki manaakitanga (hospitality) with Rapid Relief Team offering a free pie and water bottle to welcome each student to the event. Over 2,500 pies were handed out ensuring students had a feelgood factor as they entered the stadium.
